JAMMU, Aug 12: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today sealed three shops constructed illegally at Gandhi Nagar in violation of the land use of the area from residential to commercial one.
The action was taken on the instructions of Dr Manmohan Singh, Commissioner JMC and under the supervision of Joint Commissioner (Administration), R S Jamwal by the enforcement wing of the Corporation, under Section 8 (1) of J&K Control of Building Operation Act, 1988.
Besides this, while further continuing and intensifying the anti-encroachment drive to clear the footpaths/ pavements, parts of road sides, the team undertook a drive in the area of Gandhi Nagar, Nai Basti and Satwari and seized goods/ articles like washing machines, coolers, trunks, foam sheets, chairs, cylinders, bed frames, umbrellas etc which were kept by the shopkeepers/ vendors by encroaching upon footpaths, pavements and road sides etc causing inconvenience to the pedestrians and also creating obstruction in the free movements of vehicular traffic and difficulty in drainage and sanitation system.
The drive was undertaken with the active support of police force led by Station House Officer, Police Station Gandhi Nagar and District Police Lines Jammu.
The Corporation has reiterated its appeal to the general public to refrain from making encroachments and unauthorized constructions and conversion in violation of land use otherwise strict action as admissible under rules leading to demolition and sealing would be taken. It also appealed the shopkeepers and vendors not to encroach footpaths, pavements or public roads.
