JMC launches programme for birth control of stray dogs

JAMMU, Mar 25: Mayor JMC Chander Mohan Gupta along with Commissioner, JMC Avny Lavasa and Chairman, Health & Sanitation Committee Narinder Singh Jamwal today inaugurated Animal Birth Control/Anti Rabies Vaccination (ABC/ARV) programme at Municipal Animal Care Centre, Roop Nagar Jammu.
In order to effectively and sustainably control the stray dog population in Jammu City, JMC has entered into an agreement with an implementing agency M/s FRIENDICOES-SECA to carry out the ABC/ARV programme in all the 75 wards of JMC.
Previously JMC was undertaking ABC surgeries/anti rabies vaccination programme departmentally with the help of Animal Husbandry Deptt Jammu but the pace of work was not good as desired to be. Keeping in view the increasing stray dog population and prevent the abuse/cruelty issues of stray dogs, JMC invited e-NIT for ABC/ARV programme in all the 75 wards of JMC and in the bidding process, M/s FRIENDICOES-SECA emerged as successful bidder to carry out the work of ABC/ARV within the JMC limits. The said agency, headed by Dr Abhishek Singh, fulfilled all the conditions laid down in the revised module for street dog population management, rabies eradication and reducing man-dog conflict.
M/s FRIENDICOES-SECA shall take the assignment of work for two years from the date of agreement with a target oriented approach of min 1000 ABC/ARV surgeries per month. The ABC/ARV programme shall be reviewed after its completion of two years by the JMC authority and would be extended for one more year, depending upon the unsterilized population of street/stray dogs at that time.
During the programme, ABC/ARV Broucher was also released by the dignitaries. Mayor appreciated the efforts of Commissioner JMC and MVO JMC for starting this unique programme which will not only control the stray dog population in Jammu City in a time bound manner but also curb the spread of rabbies and prevent the abuse /cruelty issues of speechless creations.
Councilor of Ward No. 62, Rekha Manhas, MVO, JMC Dr Sushil Kumar Sharma and other staff members of JMC were also present on the occasion.
