JMC launches intensive cleanliness, relief operations

JAMMU, Sept 2: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has deployed teams headed by nodal officers comprising Transport and Sanitation officers to clean the flood hit areas.
Additional machinery is also being pressed into service to address the crisis and to increase the manpower for restoration works, about 200 extra Nallah labourers have been hired on emergency basis for muck cleaning and sanitation works.
Massive cleanliness drives are being undertaken at a war footing to clear the accumulated mud and debris from the affected areas.
A handout stated that apart from mobilization of present machinery, extra machinery has also been hired to combat the situation. Cleanliness operations are going on at worst hit localities like Peer Kho, Gorkha Nagar, Rajendra Nagar and Gujjar Nagar round-the-clock to restore normal living conditions.
The handout further claimed that some of the areas of Gujjar Nagar, Rajinder Nagar and Sangrampur were cleared and work on other areas is on fast track.
Heavy earth-moving machinery is removing large mounds of mud and debris while the field teams continue to manually clear clogged lanes and drains. The JMC is also distributing water through tankers to ensure uninterrupted access to drinking water for the citizens.
The local body is also working in coordination with the concerned departments to expedite the repair and restoration work for electricity supply.
JMC Commissioner, Dr. Devansh Yadav is personally visiting the spots and monitoring the ground level situation.
He has appealed to Jammu residents to maintain cleanliness in surroundings and avoid consumption of untreated or contaminated water to prevent any outbreak of diseases such as dengue, malaria and cholera.
