JAMMU, Apr 14: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), in collaboration with Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), organised a plantation drive on the left bank of the Tawi Riverfront today.
The event was attended by JMC and JSCL officials, volunteers, and local residents.
Commissioner, JMC and CEO, JSCL, Dr Devansh Yadav led the drive and said the initiative was a tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar and his vision for equality and progress.
“Greening our cities is a step toward a more inclusive and sustainable future,” he said.
Dr Yadav also spoke about the grand Tawi Aarti held on Saturday, which attracted over five thousand people.
He said the Aarti would now be held regularly, especially during the Amarnath Ji Yatra, to provide a spiritual experience for pilgrims and visitors.
He added that the Tawi Aarti would not only strengthen the region’s cultural identity but also boost local businesses along the riverbank.
“It will create new opportunities for vendors, artisans, and small businesses, while giving a spiritual and cultural boost to the city,” he said.
The JMC Commissioner further said that steps will be taken to improve infrastructure and public amenities around the riverfront to accommodate the increasing number of visitors in the coming years.
Other officers who participated in the plantation drive included Joint Commissioner (A) Krishan Lal, Deputy Commissioner (South) Lal Chand, Health Officer Vinod Sharma and officials from the Forest Department.
