JAMMU, Feb 13: While further vigorously continuing and intensifying the anti encroachment drive to clear the footpaths / pavements from encroachments the Enforcement Staff of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) led by Chief Enforcement Officer conducted a joint drive to clear the footpaths / pavements in the areas from Canal Head to Paloura Bridge, Akhnoor Road, Jammu.
During the drive the team demolished seven temporary structures besides removing the iron angles, barbered wires erected by different persons in front of their houses as well as business establishments by encroaching upon pavements in these areas. In addition to this, the team also seized two truck loads of goods / articles kept by encroachers and impounded the seized items in the Municipal Yard. The drive has been conducted with the help of police from District Police Lines, Jammu.
Besides, MVO on the direction of Municipal Commissioner conducted a surprise drive against sale of unhygienic mutton in the areas of Roop Nagar, Janipur, Durga Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, B.C. Road, Subash Nagar and New Plot. Thirty two kgs of unhygienic mutton was seized and discarded and fine to the tune of Rs. 3800 has been realized from the defaulters. The JMC has also appealed to all the mutton sellers to maintain hygienic condition within their shops because human eatable items should be stored or soled in hygienic condition.
The JMC has reiterated its appeal to the shopkeepers to refrain from making encroachments and keep their goods / articles within their shops / establishments to avoid seizure of these goods and penalty for such defaults. The encroachments lead to obstructions which hamper the free movement of vehicular traffic and pedestrians thereby causing inconvenience to the general public.
