JMC Commissioner visits Ward 50, talks about Green Colony Initiative

JAMMU, Nov 16: Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr. Devansh Yadav here today visited Ward No. 50 and held an awareness meeting with members of the Evergreen Park Association of Channi Himmat Sector 7, encouraging them to play an active role in the Green Colony Initiative.
Dr. Yadav informed the gathering that the Green Colony Initiative—a model programme introduced by JMC—was implemented for the first time in Sainik Colony, where citizens enthusiastically participated in adopting eco-friendly practices.
He urged the residents of Channi Himmat to adopt the initiative with the same spirit and enthusiasm, highlighting that if the initiative is taken forward, Channi Himmat can become the second fully-developed Green Colony in Jammu.
Dr. Yadav appealed to the residents to stop the use of single-use plastic bags and instead shift to cloth and paper bags.
Speaking about waste generation in residential colonies, he advised that garden waste and dry leaves collected from parks and compounds should be composted on-site.
He stated that waste segregation is the first and most crucial step in effective waste disposal.
The Commissioner also took stock of the sanitation services in the locality and issued necessary instructions to the staff for maintaining regular cleanliness and monitoring waste disposal practices.
Those who were present on the occasion were Health Officer JMC, Dr. Vinod Sharma and Chief Transport Officer Zone 2nd, Dharamveer Singh, sanitation team, members of Evergreen Park Association including Saujanya Sharma, Nalini Kohli, Dr. Liaqat Ali Shah, Madhavi Sharma, Rajesh Gupta and others.
