JAMMU, Sept 27: Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr Devansh Yadav, today reviewed the functioning of the street light maintenance wing and took strict action against staff for alleged negligence.
During a meeting with officials of the electrical wing, the Commissioner expressed concern over reports of non-functional street lights in several parts of the city.
Accordingly, he ordered the suspension of three employees from the street light repair section and attached them to the Kot Bhalwal dumping site until further orders.
Dr Yadav stressed that street lighting is vital for public safety and convenience.
He said poorly lit streets not only cause inconvenience but also create security risks during late hours.
He directed officials of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and the Executive Engineer (Electric) to ensure quick response to complaints and timely repair of faulty lights.
The Commissioner instructed that proper maintenance schedules must be followed and faulty street lights should be repaired or replaced within a fixed time frame.
He also called for strict accountability of field staff, regular inspections, and better coordination among departments to strengthen civic services and win public trust.
