SRINAGAR, June 26: A deputation of the Jammu and Kashmir Teachers’ Joint Action Committee (JKTJAC), led by J&K president Vinod Sharma and Chairman Saleem Sagar, today called on Education Minister Sakina Masood Itoo at her office chamber in the Civil Secretariat, Srinagar.
During the interaction, Vinod Sharma highlighted several pressing issues concerning the teaching fraternity. Key among them was the demand for a comprehensive transfer policy for teachers appointed under the ReT scheme. He urged the implementation of Government Order Number 469 dated 25-06-2014 in this regard.
Sharma also stressed the need for resumption of mutual transfers of ReT teachers, pointing out that many cases are pending in the office of the Director School Education Jammu (DSEJ). Additionally, he demanded the inclusion of undergraduate courses under the one-time exemption policy to facilitate entry of their degrees into official service records.
Saleem Sagar brought up the issue of pending Mid-Day Meal (MDM) dues for over six months, which, he stated, teachers have been covering from their own pockets. He also demanded the release of carriage charges under the MDM scheme, which have remained unpaid for more than five years. He further proposed that the MDM scheme be handed over to NGOs, PRIs, or other agencies, allowing teachers to focus on academic duties instead of administrative tasks.
The deputation also called for the revival of the ReT scheme in J&K to address the ongoing shortage of teachers.
The Education Minister gave a patient hearing and assured the deputation that their concerns would be taken up on a priority basis.
Others present in the delegation included Sham Parkash (advisor), Sukesh Khajuria (press and media secretary), Khazan Singh (coordinator), Bhushan Khajuria, Sandeep Sharma, Iftikhar Ahmad Qureshi, Abdul Maajid, Hamayun, Arif, Maqsood Ahmad, Mohammad Akbar, Manzoor Ahmad, Azeem Hafeez Mir and Abdul Qayoom.
