JAMMU, Apr 10: All Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF) has urged the authorities to expedite the filling of vacant posts in the Education Department, warning that the rising number of vacancies is adversely impacting the functioning of the sector.
In a statement, UT president of the Forum, Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh, expressed concern over numerous key positions lying vacant across various levels. He said continuous retirements on superannuation, coupled with delays in recruitment and promotions, are affecting administrative efficiency and academic performance.
Sheikh highlighted that the absence of Principals, Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs), and Headmasters has created a leadership vacuum in institutions, resulting in delays in decision-making and weakening the implementation of educational policies and programmes. He noted that such gaps not only disrupt routine administrative work but also hinder long-term planning and monitoring in schools.
He further pointed out a severe shortage of lecturers in higher secondary schools, stating that the lack of subject-specific faculty is compromising the quality of education and negatively impacting students’ academic outcomes.
The Forum appealed to the Government to initiate a time-bound promotion process to fill these vacancies, emphasizing that timely promotions are essential for maintaining administrative continuity and boosting staff morale.
Sheikh also urged Education Minister Sakeena Itoo to personally intervene and fast-track the process to ensure transparency and efficiency.
Provincial president Jammu, Gulshan Kumar Sharma, echoed similar concerns, stating that delays in appointments and promotions are creating administrative challenges and could have long-term implications for the education system if not addressed promptly.
