JAMMU, Feb 11: A crucial meeting of the Jammu & Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF) was held here today under the leadership of its State President, M Ashraf Sheikh, where threadbare discussions were held on various pressing issues confronting the teaching fraternity across the Union Territory.
Addressing the gathering, M Ashraf Sheikh expressed serious concern over the growing administrative vacuum in the School Education Department due to the delayed placement and adjustment of Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) and Headmasters. He stated that recent promotions and transfers have led to a significant number of vacant posts, particularly at the level of Headmasters, thereby affecting institutional leadership, academic supervision, and overall school functioning.
“The delay in filling these key positions is not merely an administrative lapse; it is directly impacting students, teachers, and the academic environment in schools. Strong leadership at the institutional level is essential for ensuring discipline, quality education, and effective implementation of Government schemes. The authorities must act swiftly to ensure immediate placements,” Sheikh asserted.
The Forum strongly urged the concerned authorities to expedite the placement and adjustment process of ZEOs and Headmasters who are under consideration for promotion. Members observed that the absence of proper administrative heads is hampering decision-making, monitoring mechanisms, and day-to-day functioning of schools, ultimately affecting students’ academic interests.
The meeting also deliberated at length on the long-standing issue of stagnation within the School Education Department. JKTF demanded the regularization of lecturers to ensure career progression and to remove promotional bottlenecks that have demoralized the teaching cadre.
JKTF also demanded the formulation and implementation of an immediate, transparent, and rational transfer policy in favour of Grade-II and Grade-III teachers.
Among those who attended the meeting, included Sanjeet Sharma, Mehmood Rayaz, Jalil Ahmed, Gulshan Sharma, Neetan Kalyan, Rail Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Aakash Bharti, Nasir-ul-Haq Bhat, Imtiyaz-ul-Haq Bhat, Mohd Amin, Nasir Ahmed Mir, Narinder Singh, Javed Ahmed Tantary, Ferdous Ahmed, Farooq Ahmed, Parshotam Singh, and other senior members of the Forum.
