SRINAGAR, July 8: Expressing concern over the authorities’ reported plans to outsource profit-making units at Pahalgam and Gulmarg, the employees of the J&K Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) today demanded the immediate deferment of the upcoming Board of Directors meeting.
The employees, raising slogans, also urged the Chief Minister to urgently address their long-pending and unresolved issues, including the non-remittance of CP Fund contributions for over two years, delays in salary disbursements, among others.
They argued that holding the Board meeting, scheduled for July 9, without addressing core employee concerns would be “unproductive and disappointing.” The protest was also joined by President of EIAC, Wajahat Durrani, and other senior functionaries of the association, who extended full support to the JKTDC employees during this crucial period.
“Despite our unwavering dedication to the Corporation and the tourism sector of J&K, we continue to suffer due to multiple unresolved issues,” the employees said.
Among the other long-pending issues raised were the non-regularization of long-serving daily wagers, the non-convening of Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings for over a decade, and the non-release of retirement dues for employees not covered under pension schemes.
The employees also voiced serious concern over the alleged plans to outsource profit-making units such as Pahalgam and Gulmarg.
While clarifying that they are not opposed to outsourcing in principle, they stressed that such steps must be taken in a transparent and legitimate manner, limited only to loss-making units.
“It must not compromise the job security, salaries, or service conditions of existing staff.”
They reiterated that their sole demand is a fair and just approach. “One that protects the interests of both the Corporation and its workforce.”
The employees appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene and resolve their long-standing grievances before any major policy decisions are taken regarding the JKTDC’s structure.
