SRINAGAR, Sept 9: The J&K Students Association (JKSA) today urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to postpone all examinations conducted by the JKPSC and JKSSB scheduled in September.
In a letter sent to the LG, JKSA stated that the measure was necessary in view of the recent floods and landslides that have devastated large parts of the Union Territory.
The Association said Kashmir has been reeling under “grave and unprecedented” circumstances for the past ten days due to incessant rains, flash floods, and landslides, which have caused loss of lives, destruction of property, and disruption of normal life.
“Students are among the worst affected. Many of them have lost their homes, books, notes, and other essential study material. In several districts, road connectivity remains snapped, internet services are disrupted, and families are still struggling with immediate survival needs. In such dire circumstances, preparing for upcoming examinations has become an impossible challenge for thousands of aspirants,” the Association said.
It noted that examinations conducted by JKPSC and JKSSB, including the Plus-2 Lecturer and JE Electrical recruitment tests, are fast approaching, leaving students in “extreme distress and disadvantage.”
“Conducting exams in the middle of such a humanitarian crisis would deny them a fair chance and further deepen their trauma,” the Association added.
Urging the LG to intervene, the JKSA requested postponement of all competitive and recruitment examinations scheduled for this month.
“This compassionate step would provide much-needed relief to the affected students, restore a sense of fairness, and allow them to prepare adequately once the situation normalizes,” it said.
The letter further stated that such a decision would “not only uphold the principles of justice and equity but also reaffirm the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the future of our youth, who are the backbone of Jammu and Kashmir’s progress.”
