JKRDS honors two renowned doctors

SRINAGAR, July 29: Advisor to Chief Minister Mubarak Gul today highlighted the contribution of Madr-e-Meharban, Begum Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah for the development of the society. He said Begum Abdullah throughout her life served the needy and worked for the upliftment of weaker sections of the society, especially the women folk.
Speaking at an annual day function of Jammu and Kashmir Rural Development Society (JKRDS) held at the SKICC, here today, Mr. Gul said that the real tribute to this philanthropic personality will be to follow her footsteps and serve the needy. He said Madr-e-Meharban will continue to be a source of inspiration for the generations to come and her contribution for the welfare of the society, especially for the women folk will be remembered for a long time, he added.
As per the past practice, this year the society has conferred Madr-i-Meherban Award to two leading doctors of the State for their contribution towards the service of mankind and social service. The awardees are, Dr. Sushil Razdan a renowned Neurologist and Dr. Ghulam Qadir Alqaband a leading physician.
MLA Hazratbal, Dr. Mustafa Kamal, who was chief guest on the occasion also threw light on the life of Madr-e-Meherban and said that she preached the mutual brotherhood and strengthened the bonds of secularism. He said Madr-e-Meharban struggled for the cause of women empowerment and development of children and the weaker sections of the society. She also played a pivotal role in promoting the Kashmiri language, culture and education of poor children.
The society screened a documentary film on the life of Madr-i-Meherban on the occasion which was highly appreciated by the audience.
A quiz competition on the moral education was also held on the occasion. Students of various schools of the Valley participated in the competition.
Mr. Gul gave away prizes amongst the winners of the quiz. Benish Mehraj of Govt. Girls High School, Nawa Kadal stood first, whileas Bazila Mehraz of Smiling Buds, Nawa Bazar secured second position and Afreen Ashraf of Chinar Valley Public School secured the third position.
MLA Sopore, Mohammed Ashraf Ganai, MLC Vijay Bakaya, Ex. Minister, Ram Paul, Bushan Lal Bhat, Aga Ab. Hussain and prominent citizens and general masses from cross section of the society attended the function.
