JAMMU, Aug 10: J&K Punjabi Sahit Sangam (JKPSS), Jammu, today paid literary tributes to late Gobind Kaur, first woman sculptor of J&K, in a function held here at K L Saigal Hall of Cultural Academy.
Prof Hardev Singh Khajuria was the chief guest, Didar Singh, Guest of Honour whereas Dr Arvinder Amn presided over the function.
A paper reading session to ponder over the contribution and art of Gobind Kaur was conducted on this occasion. Speaking on this occasion, Didar Singh, short story writer and Raj Kumar Behrupia, Musician and Radio, TV artist highlighted the contribution of Kaur in the field of art.
The speakers delved deep into her simplicity of life style and intricacies of her art of Sculpture. Didar Singh recalled that Gobind Kaur and all the members of her family had been contributing a lot in the field of art. He added that Kaur had the experience of working in multiple media like clay, terracotta, wood, metal, cement and metal cast etc.
Behrupia highlighted the noble features of Gobind Kaur as a teacher, who herself was a role model for students. She had also been capable of displaying her talent in Drawing and Graphic art. An art Exhibition titled ‘Devi’ in wood print making technique had been a great achievement for her in this context, he added.
In his presidential address, Dr Arvinder Amn emphasized on the need of coming together to promote the art and culture of the State.
A ‘Kavi Darbar’ by renowned Punjabi poets of J&K State was also organized, wherein Avtar Kaur, Joginder Singh Mastana, Rajpaul Singh Mastana, Amar Singh Kuka, Shamsher Singh Chauhalvi, Bhupinder Singh Bhargav, Resham Kaur, Baljit Raina, Piara Singh Dhanjal, Sewa Singh Sheetal, Balwinder Singh, Fazil Fazi, Vishav Nagrik and many others recited their creations.
Meanwhile, four intellectuals were honoured for their commendable contribution in their respective fields of art and culture. Amrik Singh Namdhari was honoured for his contribution in the field of Sculpture; Didar Singh for his contribution in the field of Short Story Writing, Bhushan Kesar for his contribution in the field of Painting and Fazal Fazi, in the field of singing.
