JAMMU, Feb 27: Designated members of the J&K Private Schools Association Jammu, met with the Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan and discussed the key issues pertaining to constitution of committee to fix the transport fee for the Private schools of JKUT.
The members briefed to the Transport Commissioner that in compliance with the directions of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Sunil Hali ,the Chairperson Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC), has constituted a committee comprising of the Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department, Commissioner/ Secretary to the Transport Department, Ashish Gupta, Special Secretary, Law and Firdous Parray, Deputy Legal Remembrance, FFRC on February 24,2026 to fix the transport fee for the Private schools of JKUT.
Focusing on various challenges faced by the private schools they said that it would be unfair for the Government to fix the transport fees without involving the major stake holders i.e. private schools owners/ managements. “School buses operating in rural areas require more maintenance than those operating in cities. All school buses are permitted to operate within a single district. Pick and drop of children from different locations in time bound manner with in a specific speed i.e. 40 km/hour is also one of the major factors while fixing transport fee of schools. Cities are densely populated than the rural areas and putting same yard stick while fixing the transport fees at par for all private schools will be unreasonable and unjustified,” they explained.
President of the association Ajay Gupta urged the committee through the Transport Commissioner to Co-opt the four representatives of Private Schools Associations (2 from Jammu & 2 from Kashmir) to take the stock of problems faced by the different private schools before taking any decision regarding fixation of the transport fee for the Private schools of JKUT.
Vishesh Paul Mahajan gave a patient hearing and promised to keep the demand of the members of private schools before the committee members for their inclusion while fixing the transport fee.
Members who accompanied the delegation included Dr Baba Nazrul Islam (President Chapter Kashmir), Siddheshwar Sadotra (Chief organizer JKPSA) and Gourav Charak (Publicity Secretary JKPSA).
