JKPF listens to issues of Gorkha Samaj, to take up them with Admn

Jammu, Nov 14: In order to highlight and address the major issues of Gorkha Samaj, The Jammu Kashmir Peoples’ Forum (JKPF ) held an interactive session with representatives of Gorkha Samaj to take stock of the long pending demands being faced by Gorkha Samaj which are still there after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A of the constitution of India and to project those demands before the LG Administration and also before the competent forum in the Central Government.
The Gorkha community living in Jammu is upbeat since the government scrapped provisions of Article 370 as they feel they will now get permanent resident certificates in the form of Domicile Certificates which will allow their children to apply for Government jobs in UT of J&K and seats in professional courses of their choice.
Over 10,000 community members are living in Gorkha colony where they have built their houses close to each other and about 500-1000 Gorkha Families have been allotted three ‘marlas’ (816.25 square foot) of land per family at Gorkha Colony (Bahu Fort) and Nayi Basti by the state government in 1962 but till date no ownership rights have been conferred upon them.
Karuna Chhetri, president, Gorkha Samaj, Sham Chhetri, Advocate, Legal Advisor of Gorkha Samaj, Heena Thappa, LLM, a legal luminary along with other representatives of Gorkha Samaj which included Barkha Chhetri, Anita Gurung, Sangeeta Rana, Shanker Singh, Retd Subedar, Narayan Singh, Retd Subedar, Durga Singh Adhikari, Retd Subedar , Santosh Chhetri, among others presented their viewpoint and hardships still being faced by Gorkha Community.
