“This hunger strike is the voice of 1 crore 40 lakh people of J&K. It reflects their wishes and aspirations, which we are attempting to ensure reach the Government in Delhi,” Karra told reporters.
He said the people of J&K have been facing an unprecedented situation since the downgrading and bifurcation of J&K State.
“Despite promising to restore statehood on the floor of Parliament, the Centre Government is delaying the process, aiming to rule J&K directly, which has led to the disempowerment of people in every respect. The dual control system has ruined the progress of J&K,” he said.
He noted that the Parliament session is currently underway and the party’s programme will continue till August 21, after which further action will be decided.
“Till then, we will see if there is any development in this regard or not-that will decide our future course of action.”
Karra also screened Rahul Gandhi’s press conference to “expose the BJP-ECI nexus in electoral fraud” and urged party leaders and workers to highlight it in every nook and corner of J&K.
“Vote chori is an attack on the democratic system of India and will not be tolerated,” he said.
Later, JKPCC president, along with AICC general secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir and other senior leaders, launched and joined the hunger strike under the “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq” program for the restoration of complete statehood to J&K.
In Kashmir division, the hunger strike starts in Srinagar on August 9, followed by Anantnag on August 10, Budgam on August 11, Pulwama on August 12, Bandipora on August 13, and Kupwara on August 14-all in Srinagar.
