SRINAGAR, Nov 8: The J&K National Health Mission Employees Association (JKNHMEA) today urged the Government to take a cue from Maharashtra and regularize contractual NHM workers in the Union Territory.
JKNHMEA President Muneer Andrabi said Maharashtra’s move to regularize NHM employees sets an example for other states and Union Territories to follow.
He expressed hope that the J&K Government would adopt a similar policy for the benefit of thousands of NHM employees serving across the region.
Andrabi said the Mission Director, NHM J&K, and the Director of Health Services, Kashmir, have already recommended regularization of contractual staff, and the proposal is currently under consideration in the Health and Medical Education Department.
“We are hopeful that the Government will approve the file soon, as such a decision would boost the morale of the employees,” Andrabi said.
Notably, the Maharashtra Government recently decided to absorb its NHM staff against regular posts – a move welcomed by the association, which urged the J&K Government to follow suit.
Senior Vice President Altaf Ahmad Bhat said NHM workers have been tirelessly serving in challenging conditions to ensure quality healthcare delivery.
“The commitment made by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah towards NHM employees should now be fulfilled,” he said, adding that the Government must take prompt action to regularize their services.
Chief Spokesperson Abdul Rauoof said Maharashtra’s decision has set a positive precedent. “NHM employees in J&K have been the backbone of healthcare, especially during crises. Their dedication deserves recognition through regularization,” he said.
