JAMMU, June 13: The Association of Small & Tiny Industries (ASTI), Jammu (province) has alleged that State Government was ignoring local small scale industry and was providing benefit to the big firms from out side the State even though they have been black listed by several states, just for the personal gains.
Addressing a press conference here today, president of the ASTI, Habinder Singh and senior vice president Ajay Jagotra alleged that despite the policy of the State Government to support local Small and Tiny Industry, some Government agencies are hell bent to cause severe damage to such units. They said that there should be strict instructions to the Government agencies from the top to procure goods from the local units giving them preference as many of them are struggling for the survival.
Referring to the system prevailing in the J&K Medical Supplies Corporation (JKMSC) Ltd, they said the Managing Director and his team have imposed such tough conditions in tender process for small units that local manufacturing units can not compete in the process. Those having annual turn over of crores of rupees can only participate in the bid. On one hand for the sake of huge commissions, a firm from Haryana blacklisted by the Bihar and Tamil Nadu Governments have been offered chance to participate in tenders in J&K while doors have been closed for the local units by this Corporation. Mega industries and black listed firms are being given huge business just to reap personal benefits by some insiders in the Corporation, they maintained.
They urged upon the Chief Minister to hold and impartial inquiry into the matter as the Health Minister has also refused to listen against the said Managing Director when some local industrial unit holders approached him recently. Instead of listening to the grievances of the Association members, the new Minister for Health and Medical Education started abusing and snubbing them. They have been forced to expose this nexus through media, they added.
General secretary, Shantanu Gupta and Ashok Basotra (Legal Advisor) of the Association also spoke on the occasion.
