SRINAGAR, Dec 2: The Executive Council of the Jammu and Kashmir Mechanical Engineering Graduates Association (JKMEGA) convened a meeting under the chairmanship of its president to review the long-pending issues confronting the engineering fraternity in general, and the Mechanical Engineering cadre in particular.
During the meeting, the Council expressed deep concern over the continued delay in resolving several critical matters. In a strong and collective voice, the Council once again urged the Administration—especially the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary and the Principal Secretary, R&B, Anil kumar Singh to expedite action on the long-pending regularisation of engineers at different levels and the implementation of the Assured Career Progression (ACP) scheme.
The Council placed special emphasis on the immediate need to fill up vacancies at various levels including Chief Engineer (M) & especially at AEE and AE levels, noting that a highly qualified and capable cadre of JEs has been awaiting elevation to AE posts since a decade. Such prolonged stagnation is causing deep frustration and de-motivation among the officers and adversely impacting departmental efficiency.
It was further highlighted that the referral of JE (Mechanical) vacancies to JKSSB continues to remain pending, resulting in operational challenges for the field staff and affecting effective public service delivery. With more than 200 JE (Mechanical) posts lying vacant, the Council appealed for their urgent referral to the Service Selection Board. Timely recruitment will not only strengthen the department’s technical manpower but also offer deserving unemployed youth an opportunity to join the engineering workforce on merit.
The Council expressed hope and confidence that the Administration will treat these issues with the seriousness and initiate prompt action for the welfare of the department and the betterment of public service delivery.
