JAMMU, Mar 25: A meeting of Jammu Kashmir Medical Employees Federation (JKMEF) was held here today under the chairmanship of Sushil Sudan in which total solidarity was expressed with the daily wage workers of Jammu and Kashmir who are currently on strike demanding the implementation of the long-standing policy that promises automatic permanent employment status after completion of seven years of service. “Our daily wage workers are the backbone of various sectors and have remained committed and dedicated to their roles, contributing substantially to the development of the region,” Federation said.
It said for years, these hardworking individuals have been toiling under challenging conditions, often lacking the benefits and security that should accompany their roles. It is disheartening to see that, despite the existence of a clear policy aimed at providing permanent employment to these workers after seven years, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has yet to take the necessary steps to actualize this commitment.
While addressing, Jaswinder Singh president JKMEF urged the UT Government to take immediate action in recognizing the rights of daily wagers and implement the policy that ensures their transition to permanent status. The Government must acknowledge the vital contributions of these workers, who have been serving diligently despite minimal financial security and benefits.
The ongoing strike is a testament to their frustration and desperation for fair treatment, and their demands are not only justified but also crucial for their livelihood and dignity. By granting permanent status to these workers, the Government will not only uplift their socio-economic conditions but also strengthen the workforce and promote job security in Jammu and Kashmir, he said.
“We strongly urge the Jammu and Kashmir Government to engage in meaningful dialogue with the striking workers and their representatives to address their concerns swiftly. It is imperative that the Government acts promptly to restore the faith and trust of its workforce and to demonstrate its commitment to social justice and equity”, said Sushil Sudan.
“We echo the demands of the daily wagers and stand united in their fight for their rights. Let us ensure that the voices of these essential workers are heard and respected,” he added.
Those who attended the meeting were- Prafulat Singh,Bharat Bhushan Bhagat,Bahadur Singh, Sanjay Choudhary,Tejinder Singh, Rakesh Bakshi ,Sunil Chouhan and others.
