SRINAGAR, July 2: The J&K Medical Council (JKMC) today said it has issued over 1,600 registration certificates in the past two months and is currently working to streamline the registration process and digitize its records.
According to the data shared, the Council issued a total of 1,688 registration certificates, including 542 permanent registrations, 863 provisional registrations, 132 additional qualification registrations, 111 No Objection Certificates (NOCs), and 40 Good Standing Certificates.
In 2024 so far, the JKMC said it has issued 1,295 permanent registrations, 1,557 provisional registrations, 342 additional qualification registrations, 467 NOCs, and 225 Good Standing Certificates.
The Council said it’s been working to make the registration process smoother and reminded that a public notice issued late last year made it mandatory for all allopathic doctors to have a permanent registration certificate from JKMC in order to practice.
“To expedite the registration process, various applicant-friendly measures have been adopted within the ambit of National Medical Commission (NMC) regulations,” it said.
The JKMC detailed that the registration process involves meticulous verification and authentication by multiple issuing authorities, including class 10 and 12 certificates from respective school education boards, internship completion certificates from concerned medical colleges, and mark sheets and degree certificates from the issuing universities.
Additionally, Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), it said, are required to submit verified eligibility certificates issued by the NMC, degree and internship completion certificates with mark sheets verified through respective embassies, and FMG Exam scorecards issued by the National Board of Examinations (NBE).
The Council said that the demand for registration has significantly increased after the final year MBBS results of around 800 to 900 students were declared in May-June this year, along with the completion of internships by about 1,000 interns during the same period.
Moreover, it stated, 255 FMGs have been selected for compulsory rotatory medical internships in various medical colleges across J&K, based on their merit in the FMG Exam conducted by the NBE.
The JKMC further informed that it now issues permanent registrations valid for five years, after which renewal is required.
“For renewal, registered medical practitioners must earn a certain number of Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit hours.”
