SRINAGAR, Sept 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council (JKMC) today announced new regulatory measures to curb the “misuse” of privately owned de-addiction clinics and the dispensing of narcotic and psychotropic substances in J&K.
In a public notice issued in this regard, the Council said it had taken cognizance of irregularities in the functioning of private de-addiction centres.
JKMC said that it found it necessary to regulate treatment practices, particularly the prescription and dispensation of Buprenorphine-Naloxone and similar substances, in the interest of public health and safety.
“Any Medical practitioner desirous of permanent registration with the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council for the purpose of providing de-addiction treatment or engaging in the prescription/dispensation of the aforesaid substances within the Union Territory shall mandatorily be required to furnish an affidavit duly sworn before a Judicial Magistrate First Class,” the notification read.
The affidavit must be filed strictly in the format prescribed by the Council, it added.
