JAMMU, Mar 26: A meeting of J&K Handicapped Welfare Association (JKHWA), Jammu was held here today under the chairmanship of its State president, Kamal Kishore Verma, wherein the speakers expressed grave concern over inserting condition of disability of 60% and above imposed by the Government for grant of assistance to disabled persons.
Addressing the participants in the meeting, Kamal Kishore Verma said that as per Disability Act 1998, grant of assistance was considered for disability of 40% and above. He appealed the Government to have a review of its new directive according to which a handicapped person with at least 60% disability will be eligible for grant of assistance.
The Association appealed all MLAs for raising the issue in State Assembly for the cause of handicapped persons.
The participants said that in case the Government fails to accede to the proposal of the handicapped persons, the association will be left with no other option but to come on roads for the cause of handicapped persons.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were RC Sharma, Ashok Singh, Ashok Samotra, Kamal Singh, Sanjeev Gupta and Yash Paul.
