JAMMU, Dec 2: A deputation of the Jammu & Kashmir Government Pharmacists Association (JKGPA), Jammu province, today met Chief Secretary (CS) J&K Atal Dulloo at the Civil Secretariat to deliberate on key issues concerning the Pharmacist cadre.
The delegation raised matters related to cadre requirements, promotional rules, and the need for uniformity across the country as framed by the Pharmacy Council of India through its recent communication issued vide letter number 10-82/2025-PCI.
During the meeting, the deputation also highlighted concerns over the present regulatory framework governing Pharmacy education in J&K. They pointed out that while Pharmacy education across India is regulated by the Pharmacy Council of India and respective state pharmacy councils, in the Union Territory it continues to be overseen by the Nursing Council-an arrangement they asserted is in direct violation of provisions under the Pharmacy Act, 1948.
The delegation underscored the need for rectification to ensure that the UT aligns with national regulatory standards.
The Chief Secretary gave a patient hearing to the issues raised and subsequently referred the matter to Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary Health & Medical Education, for further examination and necessary action.
The deputation was led by Bharat Bhushan Bhagat, president JKGPA, along with Sushil Sudan, member of the Pharmacy Council of India; Shiekh Mehrajudin, chairman JKGPA; Surjeet Rajan, vice president and R P Singh, advisor of the Association.
