JAMMU, Sept 25: Jammu Kashmir Government Pharmacists Association (JKGPA), Jammu province celebrated “World Pharmacist Day” today under the presidentship of Bharat Bhushan Bhagat at Abhinav Theatre to pay gratitude to the father of Pharmacy Prof Mahadeva Lal Schroff.
Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma was chief guest on this auspicious day. MLA Sham Lal Sharma also graced the stage as guest of honour. The programme was also attended by Director Health Services Jammu Dr Abdul Hamid Zarger, Lotika Khajuria (ex-officio president, State Pharmacy Council), Surinder Mohan Tickoo (Registrar, State Pharmacy Council) and veteran leader I D Khajuria.
While addressing the participants, Sushil Sudan, Chairman JKMEF and member of the Pharmacy Council of India, threw light on the life and achievement of Prof Mahadeva Lal Schroff who played a pivotal role in spreading pharmacy education in India and abroad. He also threw light on the major achievements of amendment of Pharmacy Act 1948 by the parliament which brought smile on the faces of 27000 pharmacists, who were on the lurch after the abrogation of Article 370 from J&K.
A souvenir on the history of pharmacists was also released on the occasion. To mark the occasion, retired pharmacists who devoted their services to the Health Department were presented with certificates and mementos.
Others who participated and addressed the function include Jaswinder Singh, Jarnail Singh, Dheeraj Sharma, R P Singh, Parfulat Singh, Bahadur Singh, Shafket Hussain, Meraj-ui-din, Naresh Sharma, Kuldeep Dabgotra, Sanjeevan, Irshad Zarger, Sanjay Choudhary, Ajeet Sharma, Ashok Bhel, Fazeel Ahmed, Gurvinder Singh and Mohd Irfan.
