JAMMU, Sept 10: Heavy rains, cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides have caused widespread devastation across Jammu and Kashmir. The natural calamity has destroyed roads, bridges, water sources and paddy crops, leaving thousands homeless as houses were damaged or washed away. In many parts of Jammu, water supply is still to be restored.
The J&K Ex-Services League, known for its active role during emergencies, has once again extended full support to the Civil Administration. The League actively participated in search, rescue and relief operations at Chishoti in Kishtwar and Kathua district.
With assistance from the Tiger Division under the Rising Star Corps, the League has also been supplying clean drinking water in various parts of Jammu where water supply remains disrupted. So far, 65 water bowsers have been distributed, including to religious places and an Old Age Home.
Additionally, the League has been distributing relief material to affected families. A relief camp was organized at Chak Hanso under Miran Sahib Brigade, benefitting 80 families from Langrieal, Rakh Jar, Fatehpur Brahmana, Chak Hanso, Fatehpur Salariya, Fatehpur Camp and Bhagtan De Kothyen. Each family received 20 kg of ration and other essentials.
Earlier, 65 flood-affected families were provided relief in Birmini and Gorkha Nagar under the Sunjwan Brigade. The League credited the GOC Tiger Division for his proactive leadership, stating that the contribution of the Division’s Brigades and Battalions is commendable. It emphasized that the success of these efforts was made possible by the strong coordination and harmony between serving personnel and veterans fostered by the GOC.
