JAMMU, Dec 7: To discuss the growing challenges faced by dairy farmers across the region, the Jammu & Kashmir Dairy Farmers Association (JKDFA) held a crucial meeting here today.
The meeting saw widespread participation from farmers and was chaired by JKDFA president Sunil Kumar Sharma, along with former Commissioner of Income Tax and Chairman of the JKDFA Advisory Board, S K Sharma.
Farmers voiced deep concern over the acute shortage of veterinary doctors, delays in livestock vaccine supply and the sharp rise in cattle feed prices, calling them major hurdles threatening dairy sustainability in Jammu & Kashmir.
Participants stressed the urgent need for high-quality seeds, establishment of silage plants and better implementation of agricultural schemes at the panchayat level.
Strong dissatisfaction was expressed over the functioning of JKMPCL, with farmers demanding the establishment of a dedicated milk processing plant in Jammu to ensure fair competition and safeguard milk producers’ interests.
They also appealed for affordable cattle insurance schemes to protect financially vulnerable dairy-dependent households.
Speaking on the occasion, S K Sharma acknowledged the Jammu & Kashmir administration and the Union Government for initiatives to strengthen the agriculture sector.
He praised the active role of Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, in supporting and improving the agricultural ecosystem.
