JAMMU, Nov 12: For the promotion, preservation and upliftment of Indian Classical and Folk Music, an Indian classical music programme organised jointly by the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) and Bharatiya Sangeet Sansthan (BSS) was held here today.
Justice Sindhu Sharma, Judge of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh was the chief guest.
The rare event of classical music began with a vocal recital by Karanjeet Singh Sasan, accompanied by Rajveer Singh on Tabla and Gouri Shankar on harmonium.
He presented Raag Multani and concluded his recital with an Abhang.
This was followed by an enthralling Pakhavaj Solo by Chitrangana Agle Reshwal from Delhi. She was supported by Gouri Shankar on harmonium, presenting Chautal.
A mesmerizing Thumri–Dadra recital by Kakali Mukherjee from Kolkata was the grand finale of the musical event.
She was ably accompanied by Sanjit Mukherjee on tabla.
The artists were welcomed by bouquets by V K Sambyal, former station Director AIR and president of BSS.
Justice Sindhu Sharma felicitated the artists with shawls.
The evening began with the lighting of the lamp and guru vandana by the students.
Additional Secretary of JKAACL, Sonali Gupta warmly welcomed the artist and the audience.
Among others, who graced the evening included B R Sharma, Ashok Angurana, K B Jandial and S S Bijral.
Rajkumar Behrupia conducted the event, presented a formal vote of thanks.
