SRINAGAR, Nov 14: The J&K Union Territory Level Bankers’ Committee (UTLBC) today organised mega awareness-cum-settlement camps in Jammu and Srinagar to help people identify, verify and claim their unclaimed financial assets lying with banks, insurance companies, mutual funds, pension funds and other institutions.
The camps were held under the nationwide campaign “Aapki Poonji, Aapka Adhikar,” aimed at ensuring a smooth and transparent process for settling unclaimed amounts.
Both Jammu and Srinagar saw a strong public response after extensive publicity by banks and other stakeholders.
Officials said around Rs 1.62 crore, including Rs five lakh in unclaimed insurance, was settled and handed over to verified claimants during the camps.
In Jammu, the camp was chaired by the RBI Regional Director, Chandra Shekhar Azad, who stressed the need for banks to take proactive steps to trace depositors or their legal heirs.
He informed that J&K has over 17 lakh unclaimed accounts worth Rs 465.79 crore, with Jammu district alone having nearly three lakh such accounts.
RBI officials also explained an incentive scheme for banks to clear inoperative accounts between October 2025 and September 2026.
Demonstrations were held on using the RBI’s UDGAM portal, while banks set up help desks for claim processing, re-KYC and grievance redressal.
In Srinagar, the camp was held at Community Hall, Khalifapora, Khanyar, with RBI officials and representatives from major banks and insurance companies guiding visitors.
They emphasised taking the initiative to the grassroots so citizens can easily reclaim their money.
Sessions were also held to inform people about unclaimed insurance amounts and the use of the UDGAM portal.
Both events ended with an appeal to the public to spread awareness so more families can benefit from the ongoing three-month drive.
