KISHTWAR, Nov 6: Kuldeep Raj, President of JK Teachers Joint Action Committee (JK TJAC), Zone Paddar, District Kishtwar, has urged the Education Minister to revise school timings for the Winter Zone of Jammu Division.
He said that schools in the region currently function from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, which poses difficulties for students during the harsh winter months, especially in remote areas like Paddar, Marwah, Dachhan and Warwan.
According to him, students have to leave home early in freezing conditions, often facing frost, fog, and limited sunlight in the mornings.
Raj suggested that the school timing be shifted to 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM, similar to the schedule already implemented in Kashmir Division.
He said this change would ensure students’ safety, improve attendance, and help them focus better in class.
He added that parents, teachers, and local communities have repeatedly raised this issue, and urged the authorities to adopt a uniform and student-friendly timing policy for the Winter Zone.
Raj expressed hope that the Education Minister and the department would act promptly in the interest of students’ welfare.
