J&K needs to prioritize Start-Ups for employment, liberation from Govt job mindset: Dr Jitendra

Kavinder invites active participation of LEAD in Ladakh

JAMMU, Sept 21: Maintaining it is not possible that everyone can be provided with a Government job, Union Minister in PMO with independent charge of Science and Technology and Earth Science Ministries, Dr Jitendra Singh today said that J&K needs to prioritize startUps for employment and liberation from ‘Sarkari Nokri’ (Government job) mindset.
Addressing the Lead Impact Conclave here, today, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the J&K should take a cue from other regions of the country who have taken lead in establishing StartUps where the youth instead of hankering for a Government job have become the job providers.
In this regard, he said that though Lavender and Purpule revolution had started from J&K but the HP, Uttarakhand and North Eastern States have started it on a large scale and in J&K Lavender cultivation remained confined to Bhadarwah in Doda district and Gulmarg in Baramulla district.

The Union Minister said that Modi Government has provided ample opportunities through various schemes including Vishvakarma Yojana, Start Ups, Skill India, Mudra Yojana, PM Sva Nidhi Yojana, etc and the youth of J&K need to take its advantage to hilt. He said under Vishwakarma Yojna Government encourages traditional vocations , provides training to artisans , besides stipend and tools free of cost. The artisan of J&K dealing with handicrafts can boost their trade by taking advantage of this ambitious scheme of Modi Government.
He emphatically called for a StartUp awareness campaign in Jammu & Kashmir so that a host of incentives and schemes rolled out over the last 11 years by the Modi Government could benefit the youth here.
“It’s a myth that StartUps are meant only for big cities. On the contra”, he said, adding almost 50% of India’s Start-Ups come from Tier 2 and 3 towns but unfortunately Jammu does not figure in that list. The question is, when youth across the country are benefitting, why can’t the youth here avail of benefits which are accessible online.
Dr Jitendra Singh called for holding workshops for this and using social media handles for the same.
The Minister said, the Government has created an enabling ecosystem for Start-Ups to boost their ventures and propel the Indian economy. He said start ups have emerged as a lucrative and sustainable source of livelihood. He stressed the importance of industry linkages and private sector involvement, saying both are imperative for sustainable Start -Ups and sustainable economic growth of India.
Dr Jitendra Singh said with one lakh seventy thousand Start-Ups, India ranks 3rd in the world. He highlighted that about 60 thousand of these Start-Ups are led by women who have become successful entrepreneurs. He said the youth engaged in Start-Ups are earning in lakhs and are creating employment opportunities for others.
The Minister informed that 50 per cent of the start ups are in tier 2 and 3 cities and towns, such as Surat, Vijayawada, Kanpur etc.
Dr Jitendra Singh called for organising workshops in rural areas to create awareness about these schemes so that maximum people can benefit from them.
Dr Jitendra Singh stressed on collaboration between the industry and academic institutions in areas which are relevant in future.
He said the next revolution would be bio-driven. He said in a paradigm shift, bio products like bio-fuels and genetically modified crops would become a major contributor to the economy and make India self-reliant. He said the youth will be the leaders of a developed India when the nation completes 100 years of its Independence in 2027.
Dr Jitendra Singh said it is with this objective that the Government unveiled the National Education Policy to equip the youth with right skills and training to make them future ready.
Earlier in his key note address Lt Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta stressed the urgent need for sustained social impact initiative in Ladakh. He invited active participation from LEAD in the region’s development journey, noting that Ladakh is witnessing rapid infrastructure growth and now requires social and economic intervention to ensure inclusive progress.
Besides, Vice Chancellor of Central University Jammu, and representatives from the Central institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS) , Leh were present. On the occasion LEAD signed MoUs with both CUJ and CIBS, represented by LEAD convener Harinder Gupta, VC CUJ, Prof Sanjeev Jain and delegates from CIBS.
On the occasion, the LEAD Social Excellence awards were presented to several prominent NGOs, recognizing their outstanding contributions to the social development.
