While talking to reporters in Srinagar, he said, “Corruption should not happen in public life at all. But if the bill is being brought because the opposition Chief Ministers and the opposition Government’s Ministers are to be disqualified, then it is not good for democracy. Anyway, we do not think it will have a lot of impact here.”
He added that corruption levels in Jammu and Kashmir are far less compared to other parts of the country. “By the grace of Allah, there is less corruption in J&K. There is no such corruption here as we see in other states. Therefore, the politicians of Jammu and Kashmir should not be afraid of this,” he said.
On the question of statehood, Bukhari said people continue to hope for its restoration but stressed that “hope without hard work is foolishness.” He alleged that the ruling party has not made serious efforts on the issue.
Criticising governance in the Union Territory, Bukhari accused the government of ignoring the real needs of the people, especially in health services. “I was told about Kralpora that doctors are not being sent there because they may not have voted in favour of the National Conference. Similarly, there are many other things,” he said.
He further said that the government is engaged in a “blame game” instead of addressing public concerns.
