JAMMU, Nov 9: J&K Grameen Bank (JKGB) Retirees Welfare Association here today organised an event to celebrate the golden jubilee of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) which were established under Regional Rural Banks Act, 1976 and are now catering to the rural population across almost all the States of the country.
At the start of the function, a two minutes silence was observed for paying homage to the departed souls of JKGB families.
A large number of bank retirees attended the event in which different speakers highlighted the crucial role played by RRBs in strengthening the rural economy and uplifting the socio-economic conditions of rural masses over the last five decades.
A free health check-up camp was also organised on this occasion for the Association members. Suits and shawls were distributed among the retirees as a gesture of honour.
On this occasion a general house meeting was also held in which the Association decided to get its affiliation with Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh and the same was approved by majority of the members.
The programme was presided over by Dhanwant Singh, Association president.
Rashpaul Choudhary, general secretary of the Officers Association, talked on the role of RRBs in empowering rural population.
Other notable speakers who addressed the gathering were Ranbir Singh, K.S Langeh, S.C.S Toor, C.K Raina, Vidhya Sagar, Dr. Mohinder Singh, R.S Sumberia and Jagdev Singh.
The proceedings concluded with vote of thanks by M.S Bhau.
