J&K designates 20 Special Courts for speedy trial of illegal mining offences

JAMMU, Nov 29: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has designated 20 District and Sessions Courts across the Union Territory as Special Courts to ensure the speedy trial of offences related to illegal mining. This significant move is aimed at strengthening regulatory enforcement, reducing case backlogs and promoting legal compliance in the mining sector.

A notification in this regard has been issued in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 30-B of Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 and with the prior concurrence of the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The newly designated Special Courts will exercise jurisdiction within their respective districts to provide speedy trials for contraventions of Sub-Section (1) or Sub-Section (1A) of Section 4 of the Act.
The courts which have been designated as Special Courts are Additional District and Sessions Judges of Samba, Ganderbal, Poonch, Bandipora, Jammu, Srinagar, Doda, Kathua, Baramulla, Anantnag, Pulwama, Rajouri, Udhampur and Handwara and courts of Principal District and Sessions Judges of Reasi, Ramban, Shopian, Kishtwar, Kulgam and Budgam.
