J&K attacks show frustration, despair of Pak-backed elements: BJP

NEW DELHI: BJP today condemned the terror attacks in Kashmir saying these were desperate attempts by Pakistan to disturb the peace in the Valley where people have rejected boycott calls and come out in large numbers to vote.

“There have been four terror incidents in Kashmir today. This is the frustration and despair of Pakistan sponsored terrorism… We condemn these incidents,” Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

Noting that the people of Kashmir have rebuffed boycott calls given by Pakistan-sponsored elements and come out in large numbers to vote in the ongoing Assembly elections, he said, “The people of Kashmir have given the bullet a befitting reply through the ballot.

“We are satisfied that the Army and para-military forces are working effectively and giving a fitting reply to Pak- sponsored terrorism.”

The day saw a wave of terror strikes carried out in Uri, Srinagar, Tral and Shopian which have left 11 security personnel dead. A top LeT commander and seven militants were also killed in the attacks that left two civilians dead.

The strikes came three days after a 72 per cent turnout was registered in the second phase of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday in a rerun of record polling in the first phase.

The attack at Tral in Pulwama district come days ahead of voting there in the third phase of Assembly elections on December 9.

Meanwhile, commenting on the case of the uniforms of slain CRPF personnel being found in a garbage dump at a hospital in Chhattisgarh, Prasad said that the matter was “unfortunate”.

“It is unfortunate. The guilty will be punished. Action is being initiated and (Chhattisgarh) Chief Minister Raman Singh has taken the issue seriously,” he said.

Prasad also took a dig at Congress leader Digvijay Singh reportedly seeking the support of Maoists in Jharkhand to defeat BJP in Assembly polls and said, “What has Rahul Gandhi to say on this.” (AGENCIES)
