“It was decided that we will not protest today as today was Maha Shivratri, which is an auspicious day of the Hindus and we don’t want to disrupt public of Jammu”, said Raman Suri, Chairman, Sarafa Association and Swarnkar Sangh Joint Action Committee.
“Government should immediately think that during this month (closing month of the financial year 2015-16), we have to pay taxes and if strike continued, then it will become difficult to pay taxes”, he added.
Raj Kumar Babbar, Parjan Jain, Vijay Verma and all other prominent members, in one voice, said that we are not protesting on roads today, but from tomorrow there will be big demonstrations, if Government does not roll back the excise duty.
They further added that on one side Government is saying that we cannot provide Government jobs to all, do your own businesses for your livelihood and on the other side Government is forcing us to close our gold business by imposing excise duty on us, which will only lead to corruption.
Ajay Vaid, General Secretary, Swarnkar Sangh Jammu District urged the Government to immediate roll back the excise duty imposed on manufacturing and production of gold ornaments.
