Jeet Adani announces Rs 70,000-Cr Coal Gasification Project near Nagpur

NAGPUR, Feb 6: Adani Group Director Jeet Adani today announced that a Rs 70,000-crore integrated coal gasification and chemical project will be set up at Linga in Kalmeshwar near Nagpur, with the potential to generate around 30,000 direct employment opportunities.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the “Advantage Vidarbha 2026” industrial meet here, Adani said the project would strengthen India’s self-reliance in the energy and chemicals sector and position Nagpur as a global hub for advanced chemical manufacturing and clean-energy technologies.

He said Vidarbha, owing to its geographical location and resource base, is emerging as a key centre for logistics, aviation, technology and industry.

He further said that Nagpur’s central location makes it a natural choice for planned urban development and industrial expansion.

Adani attributed the region’s growth momentum to policy initiatives of the central and state governments.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development policies have brought resource-rich regions like Vidarbha to the forefront of national growth, while union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s focus on infrastructure has strengthened road, highway and logistics connectivity.

He further said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has consistently pushed for balanced regional development with special emphasis on Vidarbha.

Referring to the group’s power sector investments, Adani said the 3,300-MW Tiroda supercritical thermal power plant is the largest in Maharashtra.

He informed that the revival of the 600-MW Butibori power plant has helped stabilise power infrastructure in the region. Combined with solar power from Khavda, the Adani Group has entered into a 25-year agreement to supply 6,600 MW of reliable power to Maharashtra, he said.

On mining operations, Adani said the Gondkhairi underground coal mining project would follow responsible mining practices, including minimal land usage, no displacement, zero blasting, rainwater harvesting, zero wastewater discharge and large-scale plantation.

In the logistics and aviation sectors, he said the takeover of the Inland Container Depot at Borkhedi and management of 24 border check posts across Maharashtra would reduce logistics costs and boost exports.

He added that the acquisition of Indamer Technics at MIHAN has positioned Nagpur as an emerging international aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hub.

Adani also highlighted the Adani Foundation’s initiatives in healthcare, education, women’s self-help groups, nutrition, drinking water, solar lighting and sports development in the region.
