JCCI has nothing to do with Jammu bandh: Rakesh

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Apr 10:   While disassociating itself  from the activities of J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu with retard to call given by it on certain Jammu centric issues,    the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) has said that Chamber has nothing to do with the bandh call on April 11, 2018.
While convening an emergency  press conference  here today,   JCCI president Rakesh Gupta   said that the JCCI has always considered the Bar Association of Jammu as an elderly  body but the Jammu bandh announced by the Bar Association is a unilateral decision, ignoring the facts. Therefore, the  JCCI has taken decision not to  support Jammu bandh on Wednesday.
While justifying the reasons behind,  Rakesh Gupta said  it was JCCI who alarmed and warned on the issues of Rohingyas settlement in  J&K in April last year, as such settlement of foreigners was not only a security threat but also in contravention of the provisions of Article 370 of the constitution. Now, the matter of deportation  of  Rohingyas is sub-judice and pending before the Supreme Court of India. With the constant efforts of the JCCI  that the MHA has categorically stated that no more fresh entry of Rohingyas shall be allowed in the J&K State.

Referring to  Rassana rape and murder case, JCCI president said that this is  an eight -year -old child’s case pertaining to  heinous crime irrespective of cast, creed and religion and who-so-ever is found guilty should be awarded highest punishment as provided under law, and  the fact is that the investigation by the Crime Branch  was being monitored  by the High Court and the charge sheet  has also been filed, so  it is a sub-judice matter and  it is entirely up to the judiciary to see the authenticity of the chargesheet and decide the same or handover to CBI for further investigation.
Rakesh Gupta further said that  the minutes of the meeting regarding Tribals have no constitutional validity and JCCI  has the firm stand that law of the land shall prevail and no special treatment should  be given to encroachers of land or those guilty of bovine smuggling.
Referring to  Nowshera case, Gupta said it was only the JCCI team that visited Nowshera after 34 days of continuous bandh observed by one and all for their demand of district status. The JCCI still supports the demand of people of Nowshera for district status as it is the oldest division but as of now the agitation  has been suspended. The Govt has assured  the JCCI that as an when the process of identifying new districts will be started, Nowshera will be announced a district on priority basis.
Gupta said JCCI would like to advise the Jammu Bar president to reconsider the Jammu bandh call.  The Chamber feels that such decisions should  be taken  together after mutual consultations and the JCCI is committed to work with the Bar Association on the issues based on logic only but not politically motivated, he added.
The other office bearers including secretary general Manish Gupta also accompanied the JCCI president.
