JAMMU, Aug 28: The Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) today expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the recent cloudbursts in Kishtwar, Doda and Kathua, landslide at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and flash floods across several parts of the Jammu region.

Addressing media persons here, Chamber President Arun Gupta offered condolences to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery to the injured.
He said the sudden rise in the water level of the Tawi river has caused massive destruction, damaging bridges including the Fourth Bridge, washing away key roads, and rendering many families homeless.
According to him, areas such as Peerkho, Gujjar Nagar, Gorkha Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Jeevan Nagar, Talab Tillo, Bhagwati Nagar, Rajinder Nagar, Udheywala, Muthi, Roop Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Greater Kailash, Bathindi, and R.S. Pura were worst affected.
He added that many households have been reduced to rubble while several vehicles and belongings, including electronic appliances, have been destroyed.
He urged the Government to direct insurance companies to assess damages and settle claims of the affected people on priority.
The CCI President said the Chamber stands in solidarity with the victims and appealed to NGOs and social organizations to provide shelter, food, and medical aid.
He appreciated the swift response of the Chief Minister and Lieutenant Governor in directing the administration to carry out on-ground assessments and extend maximum support but stressed that much more needs to be done to overcome the crisis.
Gupta reiterated that the Chamber stands with the affected families in their difficult time and hoped that Government will leave no stone unturned to help them come out of the crisis.
