JAMMU, Mar 2: Jammu Province Bachao Manch (JBM), led by senior Advocate Ashok Sharma (former MLA & MLC and Chairman, JBM) organized a protest dharna at Ambphalla, Jammu, against the rising threat of drug abuse, especially Chitta. The demonstration was aimed to highlight the devastating impact of this drug on the youth and families of the region.
Addressing the gathering, Ashok Sharma expressed deep concern over the widespread addiction that has rendered many young people directionless and incapable of thriving in life. He emphasized that the crisis has plunged numerous families into despair and disintegration, describing the situation as a ticking time bomb threatening future generations. Sharma urged society to unite against this menace, stressing the need for immediate and collective action to protect the youth.
Dr Kuldeep Sharma, chief advisor and chief spokesman, highlighted the profound anguish of families who have lost their loved ones to drugs. He stressed the need for compassionate leadership committed to preventing such tragedies in the future. Dr Sharma criticized materialistic lifestyles devoid of higher purpose, calling them a detriment to society.
Ch Gharu Ram, secretary general, and vice chairman Advocate Usman Salaria raised concerns about the rising number of road accidents caused by drug-addicted drivers, urging stricter law enforcement and public awareness.
Retired Principal Session Judges KYS Manhas and Hari Om Singh warned of irreversible consequences if immediate action is not taken to save the youth. Meanwhile, vice chairmen Satish Poonchi and Kamalpreet Singh criticized the Government’s inaction and alleged that corrupt police officials were shielding drug-peddlers. They called for a robust policy to tackle the crisis.
Prominent figures like Devender Singh, Istkar Khan, Dr Yashpal Sharma, Zaid Malik, R C Sharma, Haji Shak Mohd, Kuldeep Kumar and Ashwani Sharma also voiced their concern, demanding stringent measures to curb the escalating drug menace in Jammu.
