Jayesh slams Govt over water crisis

JAMMU, Sept 7: Socio-political activist Jayesh Gupta has strongly criticized the J&K Administration and Jal Shakti (PHE) Department for their complete failure to restore drinking water supply in Jammu, even after the lapse of two full weeks since the devastating floods.
Gupta said that the Jal Shakti Department had issued a statement claiming that “80% water supply has been restored,” but the situation on the ground is altogether different. “This claim is nothing but a cruel joke on the suffering people, who continue to remain without a drop of water in several parts of Jammu for the past two weeks,” he remarked.
Highlighting the plight of residents, Gupta pointed out that even senior citizens in Old City were compelled to stage protests on the roads against the administration’s neglect. He said landslides have badly damaged crucial supply pipelines, leaving thousands of families high and dry.
Warning of a looming humanitarian crisis, Gupta demanded immediate accountability from the Jal Shakti Department and urgent steps by the administration to ensure regular supply of drinking water. “The people of Jammu deserve relief, not empty press notes,” he said.
