Jayesh flags discrepancies in flood aid distribution

JAMMU, Nov 16: Political and social activist Jayesh Gupta has raised serious concerns over discrepancies in the Government’s flood relief distribution, following the release of the latest list of eligible families.
Addressing a press conference, Jayesh highlighted that while families affected by floods are entitled to Rs 1,20,000 in financial aid and five marlas of land, many genuinely devastated households have been excluded.
He cited Lower Burmini as a stark example, where nearly 20 families lost their homes entirely but were omitted from the official list. In contrast, several individuals whose homes sustained less than 5% damage have been included, raising questions about the transparency and credibility of the process.
Jayesh acknowledged that some deserving families are listed but said the inclusion of non-eligible beneficiaries casts doubt on the overall fairness. He described the exclusion of the Lower Burmini families as “extremely unfortunate and deeply unjust.”
He demanded a thorough investigation and urged authorities to set up a dedicated assessment committee to visit affected areas, document property damage through videography, and submit detailed reports to senior officials, to ensure relief reaches only those who have suffered significant losses.
