JAMMU, Dec 25: Social and political activist Jayesh Gupta today alleged a deliberate and systematic neglect of Jammu’s economic interests, warning that prolonged mismanagement and policy indifference have severely weakened the region’s economic foundation.
Addressing a press conference, Gupta accused political representatives from the Jammu division of acting as silent spectators while the region continues to slide into economic distress, leading to rising unemployment and forced migration of youth and skilled workers.
He said, “Jammu once shared a thriving economic relationship with Kashmir, supported by frequent inter-regional travel for trade, tourism and business. That economic synergy has now almost disappeared, leaving Jammu’s economy struggling due to structural neglect.”
Highlighting policy decisions that have adversely impacted the region, Gupta strongly criticized changes in railway routing that prioritize direct connectivity to Katra and Srinagar while bypassing Jammu city.
He asserted that this shift has drastically reduced tourist inflow and transit traffic through Jammu, delivering a major blow to local traders, hoteliers and transporters, who were heavily dependent on such movement.
Jayesh Gupta demanded immediate corrective measures, transparent governance and a focused development strategy to revive Jammu’s economy and restore public confidence.
He warned that continued neglect would further marginalize the region and deepen socio-economic disparities.
