Jayesh alleges conspiracy behind Jammu’s economic decline

JAMMU, Oct 5: Social activist Jayesh Gupta has raised alarm over what he termed a “systematic conspiracy” to weaken Jammu’s economy, accusing political leaders from the region of apathy and inaction.
Addressing a press conference, Gupta said the lack of political will has accelerated Jammu’s economic decline and triggered increasing migration from the Union Territory.
Recalling earlier years of economic vitality, Gupta noted that Jammu once maintained a robust trade and travel relationship with Kashmir, which boosted transportation, hospitality, and local commerce. “That synergy has now almost vanished,” he lamented, attributing the downturn to policy neglect and poor regional coordination.
Gupta also blamed the rerouting of train services that now focus on direct connections to Katra and Srinagar, bypassing Jammu and dealing a severe blow to the city’s traders and service providers who relied on tourist and transit traffic.
Criticizing administrative inefficiency, he cited the Jammu Gondola project, which took nearly 15 years to complete instead of the planned two, and the Artificial Lake project, which remains stalled after over a decade. He urged the Government to ensure accountability and take urgent corrective measures to restore public confidence and revive Jammu’s struggling economy.
