SRINAGAR, Dec 10: Minister for Agriculture Production Department, Rural Development Department and Panchayati Raj, Javid Ahmad Dar, today inaugurated the Students’ Rural Exposure Programme (SREP) under HADP -20 “Innovative Extension Approaches for Promoting Agriculture in J&K” at the Convention Centre of SKUAST-K, Shalimar Campus.
In his inaugural address, the Minister highlighted the importance of equipping the students with on-ground understanding of rural realities. He emphasized that classroom learning becomes more impactful when combined with direct interaction with rural communities, farmers and local innovators.
“Our rural communities are full of potential and wisdom. When students step into these villages, observe the challenges and engage with grassroots innovators, they develop the creativity and responsibility needed to drive meaningful change. Programmes like SREP bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application,” maintaining the Minister.
He added that the initiative would play a pivotal role in nurturing a new generation of professionals capable of bringing science and technology to the doorstep of rural households.
Javid Dar encouraged the SKUAST-Kashmir and other educational institutions to organize similar programmes on a larger scale. He stressed the need to promote scientific methods, modern farming practices, climate-resilient agriculture and community-based solutions. He noted that such engagements not only strengthen students’ professional competence but also deepen their social responsibility and empathy toward society.
Among others were present Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Deans, Directors and senior officials of the university, HoDs of APD and allied Departments.
