SAMBA, Sept 16: Members of J&K Jat Sabha have demanded adequate compensation for the farmers, who have lost their standing crops, and fertile agricultural land due to the flash-flood in the river.
Led by president of the Sabha, and former Minister, Manjit Singh, the members consisting of Ex-Minister, and senior vice president, Choudhary Sukhnandan; former Minister and vice president, Garu Choudhary; District president Jammu Urban and Ex-Corporator, Dwarka Choudhary; District president Jatt Sabha, Samba, Bachan Choudhary; District president Youth Wing Samba, Naveen Choudhary; Vijay Choudhary, Ex-Sarpanch Kali Dass, Shiv Choudhary, Ex-Capt. Chaman Lal; Ex-Sarpanch Natha Ram, and others visited various flood hit areas.
Among these areas include Kamour Forward, Barota, Nanga, and other adjoining villages in Vijaypur which have suffered extensive damages due to the incessant rains, and consequent flash-floods.
During their visit, the Jatt Sabha members met the farmers and extended their support to the demand of compensation, and removal of the sand that has turned their agricultural land barren following the flash-flood.
After taking assessment of the situation, Manjit Singh demanded that the Govt should construct a concrete bund all along the river to protect the agricultural land, and the villages from future floods.
He said that the bund in Ramgarh has been breached in the past as well, and the farmers have suffered damages. However, local authorities did not pay any heed to their demands.
It is due to the negligence that the farmers have once again lost their crops and the agricultural land to the flash-flood that could have been protected if the authorities would have paid interest towards the suffering of the villagers, he reminded.
He demanded a complete ban on the illegal mining because of which the bandh got damaged, and the flood water entered the villages, causing extensive damages to the farmers.
Sukhnandan Choudhary also spoke on the occasion, demanding waiving off of the KCC loans and electricity bills of the farmers as they are unable to pay the loan.
