JAMMU, Dec 22: All India Jat Mahasabha delegation led by its president Manmohan Singh met Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and discussed various pending demands of the Jat community.
While speaking, Singh highlighted various issues of the Jat community including OBC status, ownership rights, one time settlement for refuges of 1947, 65 and 71, problems being faced by border area residents and recent damage to the crops due to flash floods.
Singh said that in the recent Cabinet decision by the Central Government, OBC status has been granted to the Jats in India but the Jats in J&K were not mentioned in the decision.
While speaking, Union Health Minister informed the delegation that the Central Government and the party high command are pressurizing the State Government for the decision of settlement on refugees issues. Relief package designed by the State Government is already under consideration and will be forwarded soon for its funding approval by Central Government, Union Minister added.
Later deputation led by Manmohan Singh also met Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz and MP Madan Lal Sharma and advocated the issues of the Jat community.
Prof Soz assured Jat leaders that their issues will be resolved at the earliest and OBC status will be granted to the Jats of J&K on the analogy of other States.
Among others present were Jeet Singh, Madan Lal Sharma, Sobha Singh, Bhajan Singh, Dev Raj, Diwan Singh, Jirath Singh, Surjit Singh, Prempal, Gurdev Singh, etc.
