KATHUA, Jan 21: BJP MLA from Jasrota constituency, Rajiv Jasrotia, has voiced his strong discontent over being excluded from the induction ceremony of the first batch of the Government Homeopathic Medical College, Jasrota.
In a press conference held at his residence following the event, Jasrotia accused the National Conference (NC)-led administration of deliberately sidelining him, raising questions about the State Government’s approach towards coordination with legislators from opposition parties.
Jasrotia pointed out that Health Minister Sakina Itoo served as the chief guest at the ceremony, held at Government Medical College (GMC), Kathua. Despite the Homeopathic Medical College being located in his constituency, Jasrotia stated he was not invited or included in the list of dignitaries for the event.
“As the MLA of the Jasrota constituency, it is my right to be part of such a significant occasion. However, the NC Government has ignored my role entirely, denying me the respect and honor due to me in this capacity,” Jasrotia remarked.
The MLA went on to accuse the NC Government and the Principal of GMC Kathua, Dr Surinder Attri, of double standards. He alleged that two separate sets of invitation cards were printed for the ceremony, with the BJP being intentionally excluded from the guest list. Jasrotia criticized what he called “partisan behavior” in a programme centered on an institution sanctioned by the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister JP Nadda.
Expressing his disappointment, Jasrotia explained that, as a mark of protest, he chose to boycott the event. He further accused the NC Government of disregarding democratic principles by ignoring elected representatives of opposition parties in such significant public programmes.
The MLA emphasized his intent to take the matter to the Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly. “I will fight for my rights and ensure that elected representatives are not treated as secondary or irrelevant in matters concerning their constituencies,” he asserted.
