JAMMU, Mar 5: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Dr Abhijeet Jasrotia has strongly condemned the Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary’s recent remarks about Maharaja Hari Singh.
He called Choudhary’s comments “unjustified” and “inappropriate”, emphasizing the need to honour the legacy of the former ruler of Jammu and Kashmir.
Accompanied by BJP leaders Surinder Singh Gilli and Sanjay Bakshi during a press conference here, Jasrotia stated, “Maharaja Hari Singh was not just a ruler but a visionary who played a key role in the socio-economic and infrastructural development of Jammu and Kashmir. His progressive reforms and commitment to justice and secularism are unmatched. Any effort to diminish his legacy is unacceptable.”
The BJP spokesperson went on to highlight the Maharaja’s significant contributions in areas like education, healthcare, and administration.
He emphasized that the ruler introduced progressive laws to protect the rights of marginalized communities and promoted an inclusive society.
Dr Jasrotia also praised Maharaja Hari Singh’s secular approach, which maintained harmony among the region’s diverse communities.
Expressing disappointment over the Deputy CM’s remarks, Dr Jasrotia urged political leaders to be mindful of their words when discussing historical figures.
He called for a fair and respectful representation of history and emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of key leaders like Maharaja Hari Singh.
Dr Jasrotia also demanded that the Deputy CM retract his comments and issue a clarification to avoid further controversy.
He reaffirmed his party’s commitment to preserving the legacy of influential leaders and ensuring their contributions are recognized.
Concluding the press conference, Dr Jasrotia declared that July 13th would remain a “black day” in Jammu and Kashmir’s history, urging the people of the region to continue valuing the historical importance of Maharaja Hari Singh’s contributions.
